Daily Care for the Nervous System

Do these little things every day:

  1. Don’t stay frozen in one position too long
    • Stand up sometimes.
    • Wiggle your shoulders.
    • Move your neck gently.
(Your body gets tired of being stuck.)
  2. Don’t hold your breath when you’re focused or stressed
    • Let your breath go.
    • Take a normal slow breath out.
(Holding your breath makes your body tense up.)
  3. Move a little after sitting or concentrating
    • Shake your hands.
    • Stretch your arms.
    • Walk a few steps.
(Finish the “move” your body wanted to make.)
  4. Do one thing at a time for a few minutes
    • Put your attention on one small task.
    • Then stop and switch.
(Your brain gets worn out by trying to do everything at once.)
  5. Take tiny breaks between things
    • Pause for 10–20 seconds when you finish something.
    • Look around or stand up.
(Your nervous system needs clear “off” moments.)
  6. Write stuff down instead of holding it all in your head
    • Make a quick list of things you need to remember.
(Holding too many thoughts is tiring for your body.)
  7. Notice your body once or twice a day
    • Ask: “Am I tight? stiff? tired?”
    • Don’t judge it. Just notice.
(You can’t take care of what you don’t notice.)
